GRAMMY-nominated pop/rock band Paramore were recently the featured guests at 98.7-FM’s Penthouse, an exclusive concert series hosted by Los Angeles-based radio station KYSR-FM at the historic Hollywood Tower in Hollywood, Calif. Before an intimate crowd, Paramore performed a set featuring tracks from their new No. 1 album, Paramore, including “Still Into You,” and other hits such as “Misery Business” and “That’s What You Get.”
Prior to the performance, Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams, bassist Jeremy Davis and guitarist Taylor York participated in an exclusive interview with GRAMMY.com and discussed writing songs for their latest album, being nominated for a Best New Artist GRAMMY and what they sacrificed to pursue a career in music.
“Listening to our catalog, [Paramore] is the biggest jump,” said Williams. “I just want our fans to go into it with an open mind and be psyched to take a journey with us because we really are having a good time exploring new sides of our band and our artistry and the things that we love and our influences. It’s been really fun and really rewarding too.”
Formed in Franklin, Tenn., when frontwoman Hayley Williams was only 15, Paramore released their debut album, All We Know Is Falling, in 2005. The album peaked at No. 30 on Billboard’s Top Heatseekers chart and landed Paramore spots on tour with Jimmy Eat World, Simple Plan and the Vans Warped Tour. Riot! was released in 2007 and peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 on the strength of hits such as “Misery Business” and “That’s What You Get.” That same year Paramore garnered their first GRAMMY nomination for Best New Artist. Following a 2009 summer tour in support of GRAMMY winners No Doubt, Paramore issued Brand New Eyes. The album debuted at No. 2 on the strength of “The Only Exception,” which peaked at No. 24 on the Billboard Hot 100, their highest-charting song to date, and garnered a GRAMMY nomination for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals. That same year Williams and Taylor earned a GRAMMY nomination for Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television Or Visual Media for co-writing “Decode” from the Twilight soundtrack. In 2010 Williams earned a nomination for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals for appearing on B.o.B.’s “Airplanes, Part II.”
Released April 8, Paramore marks the band’s first studio album in four years. Co-produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck), the album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and features the singles “Now” and “Still Into You.” Paramore will kick off a worldwide tour on April 25 with dates scheduled through November.
