Caleigh met Paramore on Parahoy!
Caleigh, 20, from New Jersey, was able to go on the first-ever Paramore cruise, called “Parahoy!”, with her mother and friend, thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Not only did they get to go on Parahoy but to meet Paramore as well! We interviewed Caleigh on her fantastic experience, see what she had to say!
How did you get to meet Paramore, when and where?
I went to Parahoy (March 7-11, 2014) working through the Make-A-Wish Foundation and I think just because of that, and my mom mentioning it to the front desk workers, Sixthman (the cruise organizer) was able to organize the meet and greet for us. I found out I was meeting them right before their first show, so like 20 minutes after we set sail. I had limited information but I just knew I was going to.
Then I got back to my cabin and Sixthman printed up some instructions for me that told me to go to the gazebo after the Q&A that took place on the 4th day of the cruise. Once I was there, a Sixthman member took me to the area behind the stage that was generally blocked off. Then they took us to some weird room in the backstage area that was just a nice empty area to have some privacy. We sat in there for like ten minutes while the Q&A continued and then Paramore walked right in!
How did you feel when you found out you’d meet them?
I think this picture pretty much sums it up… (on the right) but if I had to pick a word, I would say ecstatic. My friend took this photo as I hugged my mom!
When you met them, what did you talk about?
It happened so fast that I’m sure I’ll forget some of it, but basically, we just introduced ourselves and they asked if we were having fun, and we talked about how great the cruise is, and Hayley kept being like “We’re in the middle of the ocean! How crazy is this?!” She was also looking for whales and sharks. She had not seen any despite her tries.
Then we took pictures, then I asked Jeremy about his baby (Bliss) and we talked about that a little, he even showed me pictures of Bliss from his phone! Then we asked them to sign a bunch of our stuff (like a ukulele) and by that point, their manager or whoever already told them to hurry up like three times so they had to go. Then we all hugged and said our goodbyes.
Have you listened to the band for a long time?
I’ve been a fan since Riot, so I guess 2007. Coincidentally, that’s the year I got sick so I suppose it was meant to be! I know it’s super cliché but music really does help you get through hard times and Paramore (and Tegan and Sara) were definitely with me through it all, even though they don’t realize it.
How did you feel after meeting them?
I feel amazing. I haven’t stopped listen to Paramore for a single moment. It was everything I hoped it would be and more. All three of them are just such amazing people and didn’t treat me at all like a charity case but showed genuine interest in me and really appreciated the fact that I was a fan. I was (and still am) completely blown away by their kindness.
